Junior/ Mid Test Engineer (QA, Quality)

DEPARTMENT: Engineering

REPORTS TO: Vice President, Engineering

LOCATION: Reston, VA

Job Description:

Content Analyst Company, LLC is growing and we are currently seeking a Junior/ Mid Test Engineer (QA, Quality) to work closely with our Engineering Group to produce quality software. As Test Engineer you will be responsible for the testing and quality assurance of our CAAT analytics software and future software products.

We're looking for someone who can break anything.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Create, manage, and document all automated system-level tests, including UI tests.
  • Work with the engineering team to have consistent component level tests and reports.
  • Help to create a standard benchmark test suite for regression testing and performance metrics on multiple system configurations.
  • Create and maintain a testing data repository that can store datasets from partners/customers while ensuring the confidentiality of specific sets of data.
  • Help maintain the test lab machines (locally and in the cloud), software applications, and test datasets.
  • Coordinate testing and reporting with engineering to produce high quality releases in a timely manner.
  • Work with customers/partners on optimal ways to find and use test data to validate their work.

Qualifications:

  • BS degree in Computer Science or related engineering discipline.
  • Junior to Mid-level experience in software product development.
  • 2+ years of practical software QA experience.
  • Familiar with Agile development principles
  • Experience in creating and performing regression tests, functional tests, and performance tests including load and stress tests.
  • Experience in creating and performing tests for a browser-based user interface.
  • Capable of producing well-written test plans, test reports, performance reports, and other documentation.
  • Experience with scripting in Windows/Linux - Groovy, ScalaTest, or Python preferred
  • Experience with software configuration management - Git preferred
  • Experience with programming in Java and .NET preferred.
  • Experience with relational databases a plus.
  • Experience in the use of performance profiling and monitoring tools preferred.
  • Experience in building, cataloging, and maintaining test data sets and benchmarking results a plus.
  • Experience with the reporting and tracking of defects using a ticket management system – JIRA preferred.
  • Experience with Amazon Web Services, Ansible is a plus.

Software Engineer - All Levels

This role will have a significant influence in a number of our core product features. This requires a team player who can own a challenging set of tasks and drive them to completion, and have fun doing it. It will require working within a cross-functional team, and collaborating with members in an agile environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Own and write features, typically in Java, for our text analytics product.
  • Work with big data: customers routinely ingest and process tens of millions of documents.
  • Design new kinds of analytics to provide valuable insight into big data.
  • Solve challenging problems in algorithms, scalability, performance, and API design.
  • Participate in peer code reviews.
  • Design and implement end-user workflows and experiences.
  • Use the best tools available: laptops, multiple monitors, your favorite IDE, and Git.
  • Avoid meetings and distractions: our daily 15 minute standup is all we need.

Qualifications:

  • BS or MS in Computer Science or a related Engineering discipline.

Senior Software Engineer

Job Description:

Content Analyst Company, LLC is currently seeking a high-energy and talented Senior Software Engineer to join our small, but growing cross-functional team, dedicated to designing and building an advanced analytics SDK that is second to none. The group participants in all aspects of software engineering, from research and design, to testing and implementation.

We want a team player who can take on a challenging assignment, investigate what is needed for it to be successful through research and communication with others, and make it happen with high-quality, good testing, and solid and consistent integration with existing code.

Required Skills

  • At least two years of Java programming experience, and a minimum of three years practical experience in software development.
  • Self-starting detail oriented developer with good teamwork and communication skills.
  • Proficient with concurrent computing principles and programming in multi-threaded environments.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and fix software issues while maintaining the integrity of the code.
  • Ability and commitment to good software testing and unit testing practices.
  • Competence with source code control, continuous integration and other development tools.

Preferred Skills:

  • Familiar with Agile development principles using the Scrum methodology.
  • Experience in algorithms, and in defining workflows to improve end-user experience
  • Experience with REST, JSON, Cloud computing, and Web Services is great
  • Experience with Hadoop, Scala, PostgreSQL, JDBC, C#, .NET is a bonus
  • Experience with GWT, SmartGwt, MVP4G, Ajax, Javascript, and CSS is especially helpful
  • Experience with Linux and Windows software development.

This role will have a significant influence on our capabilities to maintain a stable and elastic environment, successfully servicing a large customer base. This requires a team player who can own a challenging set of tasks and drive them to completion, and have fun doing it. It will require working within a cross-functional team, and collaborating with members in an agile environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and maintain an AWS environment, with experience utilizing one or more of Ansible, Ruxit, Opsworks (with Chef scripting), Cloudwatch, EC2, S3, RDS, Route 53, IAM, EBS, ELB.
  • Familiar with a variety of telephony equipment, switches, routers.
  • Capable of providing basic PC support and troubleshooting.
  • Solve challenging problems in scalability, performance, and AWS usage.
